Welcome To Millside School
Millside School is part of Haybrook College currently offering 59 places to pupils, mainly from Slough, who primarily, but not exclusively, have Educational Health Care plans related to social, emotional and mental health difficulties. We share in the colleges vision that “Inspiring and supporting young people to make positive choices about the future” and feel that we can achieve this by building positive relationships with the pupils in our care to guide and support them to make positive decisions.
We are very proud of our, and the pupils, achievements at Millside. We set very high standards of behaviour and academic study and work hard to maintain these. It is important to us that our pupils leave school with not only a better understanding of the world and their place in it but also a good range of GCSE qualifications which will help them progress onto the next stage of their lives. At Millside we currently offer English, Maths, Science, ICT, Design and Technology, Art, Sport, Fundamental Studies, Cooking skills and Biology GCSE and pupils will get a chance at a vocational pathway such as motor mechanics, catering, construction or child care via Haybrook College’s Pitstop provision.
As many pupils struggle with the transition from primary to secondary school Millside has developed a nurture group approach where our year 7 and 8 pupils spend most of their time with the same class teacher working on a themed curriculum which allows them to form really positive links with their tutor and Sports Coach Mentor. During year 9 pupils will work on a more tradition secondary school timetable, working with different specialist teachers. They will also have the opportunity to engage in a creative curriculum allowing them to experience a range of activities that may not have had the opportunity to engage in before.
In KS4, years 10 and 11, pupils will increasingly focus on their GCSE studies so that they will be able to leave us with the best possible grades and opportunities for the future. During year 10 pupils will be able to take part in a week long work experience placement aimed at making them more independent and getting them ready to move to the stage once they leave Millside School. In Year 11 pupils will have access to Haybrook Colleges moving on coordinator and independent careers advisors to find the best possible pathway for them to pursue.
At Millside our overall aim is to provide a safe, secure and challenging learning environment where pupils are able to experience success in their education and by developing positive behaviour patterns. Our staff team are highly experienced and motivated to ensure that the pupils reach their full potential.
