Due to an increase in pupil numbers, we are looking for experienced SEND Learning Support / Intervention Mentors to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs at Millside School. Millside School is a special school for up to 70 pupils aged 11 – 16 with challenging and complex behaviours associated with an SEMH condition including ASD, ADHD, speech, language and communication difficulties and others. This is a fixed term contract for the remainder of the 2020-2021 academic year.
You will support the learning, achievement and development of SEND pupils with SEMH to ensure they leave school with the best possible outcomes. You will take responsibility for the 1:1 intervention programmes of exceptionally vulnerable young people which will involve organising individualised programmes for students who struggle to engage with learning and delivering these both in the classroom and out of class or off-site. You will support the collection and maintenance of data measuring pupil behaviour, attendance and academic achievement as required. You will also support teachers to lead sessions by ensuring pupils remain focussed on learning and through maintaining positive pupil behaviour and by writing and implementing Individual Education Plans, individual work, risk assessments and reports.
You should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working with young people experiencing social, emotional, mental health or behavioural difficulties in either a youth work or school setting. This may be as a mentor, teaching assistant, youth worker or other support role. You should also hold, or be working towards, a recognised teaching, youth work or coaching qualification.
You need to be confident and engaging with excellent interpersonal skills, so you can motivate pupils and colleagues. You should have good numeracy and communication skills (both written and verbal) and are able to remain calm in difficult and challenging circumstances.
